Pete Agalos (Cal Poly) and Chuck Mills (Feather River College) talk about their experiences with using the Cowhorse U program as the textbook in their colt starting classes. CowHorse U is really helping me understand how to 'operate' my horse. I am developing softer hands which has given me a horse that is soft and responsive to the bit. When my horse is resisting a maneuver, I understand how to redirect what I am asking and go back to the foundation elements to fix the problem. This has saved me from many arguments that my horse wins instead of me. I finally understand how to consistently move the shoulders and hips to get solid lead departures everytime. I especially like the training schedule in the program because I know what I should expect from my horse before moving on to new elements. It keeps me honest!
